Movement Global Eco Capsule Wardrobe Pioneers

Movement Global Eco Capsule Wardrobe Pioneers

While the term "capsule wardrobe" has been around since the 1970's, I believe Movement was one of the very first eco version of this popular "less is more" concept.

Movement's Capsule Wardrobe Ideas

Our staple pieces are a variety of reversible and modular silhouettes for all shapes, sizes and tastes. You can start with any of our sustainable, MODULAR or REVERSIBLE items and build a variety of looks from there with only three pieces. With us, if you get 7 pieces, you have an entire wardrobe.

Capsule 1: 3 items - 6-8 looks

Original Sustainable Capsule Wardrobe in Organic Cotton and Bamboo by Movement Global

In this capsule both the skirt and the tank are two-colour REVERSIBLE inside out, and the tank is also REVERSIBLE back to front for a scoop neck, or scoop back.

This is the same tank REVERSED back to front, and inside out to show the Heretic (wine) colour

Throw on any of our Jackets or Wraps and this becomes an entirely different look. Choose one colour the same in your reversible colours if you want a modular seamless look. Choose different colours if you prefer a pop.

What is a capsule wardrobe?

The term "capsule wardrobe" was first coined by Susie Faux in the 1970s and referred to a collection of essential items of clothing that would not go out of fashion, and therefore could be worn for multiple seasons.

In the mid-80's fashion designer Donna Karen expanded on this idea with her "Seven Easy Pieces" collection. The collection was designed to give the average working woman quick and easy options for looking stylish and professional with only a few basic pieces that you can mix and match and change with well chosen

“So many women find assembling the right clothes bewildering today,” Karan told a reporter at the time. “They’ve discovered fast ways to put food on the table, but they do not know how to get their wardrobes together easily.”

Capsule 2: 3 items 6 looks

WP12 Carmen Long Pants + WT60 Vicky V  or WT66 Seya Tunic+ WJ15 Vivian Cardigan

These pants are cosy REVERSIBLE colours goodness. That are equally at home lounging or dressed up for work with a classic loose and stylish long cardigan.

Layer this look with a longer style tank for wearing to work or dinner.

Reverse the colour ways on the pants and throw on a longer tunic for seasonless style.

Take the same tops and throw them over a pair of our New Skinny's ( shown in main picture above), and you have another entirely new look. Capsule wardrobes are fashion made easy, so you can focus on the more important parts of your life.

The Movement Concept

When I started Movement Global over a decade ago it was to address this same idea, but with sustainable fashion. I have worked in the fashion industry since I was 12, and I know just how dirty this industry is, from both an environmental and human labour perspective. I wanted to enjoy my clothing again, guilt free, but I also am a very busy professional business owner, yoga teacher, cook book author...my idea was to design clothing that was going to easily follow me through my day (without hurting the planet or any other people), and look great doing it.
